Keck Observatory
How do we know what’s out there? The W. M. Keck Observatory answers with two massive telescopes on the summit of Mauna Kea, a volcano in Hawaii, where thin, steady air offers some of the clearest views of the cosmos on Earth. Its pioneering technologies capture remarkably precise images of deep space. This exhibit brings the observatory to a mainland, general audience. A scale model invites visitors to look inside the telescopes and discover their extraordinary mirrors, which change shape 2,000 times per second. An accompanying video, shot on location by Moey, offers rare views of the telescopes at work high above the clouds.
